Chamber’s annual public policy trip to Washington to focus on relationships, quality of life for Morgan County

The annual Washington, D.C., public policy trip for members of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce is set for April 17-19, where community and business leaders are scheduled to meet with federal officials whose decisions impact the state of business in Alabama and Morgan County in the defense, technology and transportation sectors.

The three-day gathering – which will also include members from the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce – in the past has featured visits and sessions with Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. James Inhofe, Sen. Barbara Mikulski, House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan, former Central Intelligence Agency Director Gen. (Ret.) Michael Hayden, military officers and Pentagon officials, as well as Alabama Sens. Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, and Reps. Mo Brooks and Robert Aderholt.

“Meeting face to face with both our Alabama delegation and other influential members of Congress gives us the opportunity to serve as a direct line of communication for our business community to our lawmakers, sharing what is happening in small business and industry,” said John Seymour, president and chief executive officer of the Decatur-Morgan Chamber.

“Our federal government and our representatives work for us, the tax payers, and it’s important the voices of small business owners, entrepreneurs, leaders in manufacturing and industry, and municipal governments are heard. Our relationships are vital to making sure Decatur and Morgan County are the best places to live, work, start a business and enjoy a high quality of life,” he went on to say.
