Public Policy
Mission
Advocate, to federal, state and local levels of government, policies and legislation that encourage economic growth and promote an environment in which businesses can prosper. Create a positive business climate through an aggressive public policy program.
The public policy committee acts as the unified voice of the chamber, representing the combined interests of Morgan County and Decatur, Alabama area businesses. Each year, the committee prepares a legislative agenda, monitors legislative activities that could affect Decatur and Morgan County, and keeps in contact with elected officials to lobby for “business-friendly” legislation. The committee is also responsible for organizing the chamber’s annual trip to Washington, D.C., which is open to all chamber members.
Annually, the public policy committee hosts three reports from local and state government officials to update chamber members on the state of business and the economy.
These reports include:
- State of City Address - Delivered by the Mayor or other leading city official.
- State of County Address - Delivered by the Morgan County Commission Chairman.
- Alabama Update - Delivered by the Governor or other leading state official.
- State of Healthcare - Delivered by area healthcare executives.
The public policy committee further impacts public policy by working closely with other business organizations including:
